The gameplay elements are more ship-based than in previous games. A significant plot element is the attempt to establish a Republic of Pirates utopia, free from British or Spanish rule. It follows the exploits of notorious pirate Edward Kenway (grandfather and father of Assassin’s Creed III protagonists HaythamKenway and Ratonhnhaketon respectively), who stumbles upon the Assassin/Templar conflict. The main story takes place in the 18th century the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. The story’s framing is set in the 21st century, and the player plays the role of an Abstergo agent.
